Abstract
987,461. Thermionic cathodes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. May 31, 1962, No. 21017/62. Heading H1D. A directly-heated cathode comprises a tubular mesh 1 of oppositely-wound helical filaments supported at its ends by metal rings 2, 3, connected to a central support 8 and a supporting skirt 5, respectively. A metal band 13, Fig. 4, is secured to the inner surface of mesh 1, intermediate its ends, and is secured by radial supports 14 to a heat shield 9 surrounding the central support 8. As shown, ring 2 is secured by a spider of metal tapes to a radial flange on central support 8. Heat shield 9 is spaced from support 8 by three insulating brushes 10 at each end, through which pass wires 11 welded to support 8. Further heat shielding is provided by radial flanges 90 at the lower end of shield 9.
