Abstract

986,724. Pulse modulation circuits; transistor sawtooth generators. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. July 9, 1963 [July 10, 1962], No. 27037/63. Headings H3T and H4L. A circuit for converting a direct voltage into a pulse train of frequency dependent on the voltage and comprising a condenser charged through a transistor and discharged each time it reaches a predetermined potential, is characterized in that a further transistor is connected in parallel with the condenser so that temperature changes do not affect the charging rate of the condenser. In the Figure the voltage U m controls the current through transistor T 1 and so controls the charging rate of condenser C i . Each time condenser C i reaches a predetermined potential a comparison device AV closes contacts K 1 and K 2 to discharge the condenser and provide a pulse at output terminal A 2 . Thus the pulse frequency is proportional to U m . A transistor T 2 is connected in parallel with C i so that temperature variations affect the two transistors equally and do not alter the condenser charging current. Biasing sources B 1 and B 2 for the transistor are arranged so that there is no charging current when U m is zero. A resistance R k in series with C i compensates for a linearity error which would otherwise be caused by the constant dead time when the condenser is being discharged.
