Abstract
986,588. Automatic circuit-breakers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. April 29, 1963 [May 3, 1962], No. 16679/63. Heading H2B. A multi-pole circuit-breaker with a manually operable operating mechanism has a separately enclosed trip unit 21 removably mounted in the main insulating casing 10. A common trip bar 50 pivoted at 51 is rotated about its pivot either directly by deflection of bimetallic strip 47 or by attraction of armatures 52 towards pole extensions 44A whereupon extensions 52A engage a portion of the trip bar 50 to rotate it. Rotation of trip bar 50 causes its projection 50A to rotate a secondary latch 63 by its arm 53, thereby releasing a spring-biased " kick-off " member 60 which in turn rotates a primary latch 58 to release member 25 with consequent collapsing of toggle linkage 27, 28, and opening of the breaker contacts 13, 14.
