Abstract

985,285. Heat exchangers. SERCK RADIATORS Ltd. July 2, 1963 [July 3, 1962], No. 25413/62. Heading F4S. A heat exchanger especially for use as a radiator for an internalcombustion engine comprises a plurality of elongated members, each formed with a corrugated central portion and a pair of cup portions projecting transversely of the length of the member, one cup being formed adjacent each end, said members being connected in pairs so that their corrugated portions meet to form elongated passages which open into the cup portions, said cup portions being joined together to form end chambers by tubular members in sealing engagement with said cups. In the Figures, elongated members 10 are joined together in pairs to form an assembly of passages connecting two end chambers formed from cup portions 12 at the end of each member. The cup portions 12 are constructed with apertures 12a and are sealed together by tubular members 17. A plurality of metal fins 18 formed from a sheet of corrugated metal are secured to the members at an angle slightly inclined to the width of the members so that the fins do not become interleaved. Preferably, each member comprises two corrugations so that when paired with a like member, a pair of passages 13, 14 is formed. Fluid enters the assembly by inlet 15 and leaves by outlet 16 after passing through the passages.
