Abstract

985,169. Pouring metals. SOC. INDUSTRIELLE DE COMBUSTIBLE NUCLEAIRE. Jan. 30, 1964 [Jan. 30, 1963], No. 4024/64. Heading B3F. Apparatus for the manufacture of cast bars comprises a melting crucible 11 with a distributer 12 underneath. Orifices in the bottom of the crucible and distributer are closed by plugs 14 and 17 respectively and vertical casting moulds 13a and 13b are connected to the distributer by orifices 12a and 12b. Beneath the plugged orifice of the distributer is positioned an auxiliary mould or container 16. In operation, metal melted in the crucible 11 is allowed to pass into the distributer by fracturing the plug 14 by means of a punch 15. The metal then passes from the distributer into the moulds through the orifices 12a and 12b. When a predetermined time has elapsed, sufficient to ensure complete filling of the moulds the punch is again actuated to pierce the plug 17 to allow excess metal remaining in the distributer to flow into the auxiliary mould 16. The moulds are removed from the distributer when the metal has solidified.
