Abstract

984,814. Shearing. B.R.G. S.A. Dec. 19, 1962 [Jan. 19, 1962; July 20, 19621, No. 48002/62. Heading B3W. A guillotine has a fixed blade and a movable blade which is operated by two hydraulic jacks, one at each end of the blade, the jacks being fed independently of each other in such manner that their forces add to each other in certain determinated conditions. The upper blade 36 is mounted on a movable apron 1 which is controlled by two jacks 16, 17 which are independently fed by pumps 18 and 19. Movement of the jacks is controlled by pilot valves 14 and 15 set in the pistons of the jacks. The valve 14 is connected to the end 24a of a knuckle comprising two parts 20 and 24, the part 20 being connected to the junction 1a of the apron 1 and the piston rod 16a, and the arrangement being such that when the angle between the members 20, 24 is less than 180 degress, the valve 14 is open. Control of the valve is by a pedal 49. The apron 1 is connected at 1b to a bell crank 25 pivoted at 25a to the frame, the other end of the crank is pivotally connected to a bar 27 which is attached at its other end to a beam 29. The centre of the beam 29 is connected by a lever 33 to a bellcrank 34 and the lower end of the beam is connected to a rod 30. The arm 34a of the crank is connected to the valve 15, which therefore follows the movements of the point 1b but the initial relative positions of the valve and apron, and hence the starting time of the jack 17 can be modified by moving the bar 30 by means of a handle 43 and pinion 99 engaging a rack 30a carried by the bar 30. This adjustment allows alteration of the angle between the blades 35 and 36, when plates of different thicknesses are to be sheared. Hold-down jacks 46 are automatically set at the required distance above the fixed blade 35 by a cam-bar 52 which is connected to the rod 30 by a rocking lever 78. The jacks 46 are fed with oil from the pump 18 by a circuit which prevents pressure being applied to the jack 16 until the hold-down jacks 46 are clamping the work. The clearance " j " between the blades, Fig. 4, is adjusted by cams 95 which control the positions of support rollers 2 behind the movable blade 36.
