Abstract

984,808. Friction clutches. FICHTEL & SACHS A.G. July 19, 1962 [Jan. 5, 1962], No. 27768/62. Heading F2C. In a motor-vehicle friction clutch wherein a driven disc 5 is clamped between a flywheel 4 and pressure plate 2 by a diaphragm spring 3 acting through an interrupted annular rib 11 of the pressure plate, the pressure plate 2 is drivingly connected to a cover plate 1 by radially arranged leaf springs 9 which pass through gaps in the rib 11 and are riveted at one-end to the pressure plate and at the other end to lugs 7 of the cover plate 1, the cover plate being recessed each side of the lugs permitting flexure thereof to absorb variations of effective radial length of the leaf springs between the engaged and disengaged clutch conditions. The leaf springs 6 have openings 9 through which portions of the annular rib 11 extend to provide greater bearing surface for the diaphragm spring 3 and the annular rib 11 is reinforced by stiffening ribs.
