[Also in Division F4] A power plant, capable of peak load operation on occasion, comprises a steam generating unit having a superheater and a reheater, the superheater consisting of a low temperature section and a high temperature section in series, a steam turbine including a high pressure section and a low pressure section having a substantially greater capacity than the high pressure section by an amount determined by the peak load, a by-pass pipe extending from the outlet of the low temperature section of the superheater to the entrance of the reheater and a valve located in the by-pass to permit the passage of dry steam from the low temperature section to pass through the by-pass pipe equal in amount to the excess steam capacity of the low pressure turbine. The valve may be pressure regulated.
