Abstract
983,806. Beam casings. TURNERS ASBESTOS CEMENT CO. Ltd. Dec. 6, 1963 [March 19, 1963], No. 10865/63. Heading E1V. An I-sectioned steel beam for supporting a wall or floor has a double-skinned casing around the sides and bottom of the beam comprising pre-moulded U- or L-sectioned portions of an incombustible material. In Fig. 2, L-sectioned portions 5, 6 and 7, 8 are employed, of asbestos "wood" and asbestos insulation board respectively, the joints in the inner and outer skins being staggered, and the skins being supported by brackets on the I-beam engaging clips 16. In the embodiment of Fig. 4, blocks 29, 33 are located in some of the openings in a castellated I-beam by screwjacks 32, clips 35 being fixed to the inner skin portions 25, 26 to engage the blocks 29. In the embodiment of Fig. 7, an air space is formed between the skins using battens 66-68, and the skins are attached to blocks 69, 70 located between the I-beam flanges. In the embodiment of Fig. 5 (not shown), two U- sectioned portions only are used, attached directly to blocks between the I-beam flanges, and in the embodiment of Fig. 6, four L- sectioned portions are fixed in a similar way, with no spacing battens.
