983,181. Hot-water boilers. J. H. BALLANTYNE. Oct. 4, 1963, No. 39282/63. Heading F4A. A hot water boiler for use as a back boiler of a fire grate or for fitting in the fireplace flue comprises two manifolds 1, 2 connected by vertical tubes 3 and by semicircular smaller bore tubes 4, the manifolds having respective connections 5, 6 for flow and return pipes to a storage cylinder. Fig. 2 shows the boiler mounted as the back boiler of a domestic grate. In operation, water circulates rapidly between the manifolds, flowing upwardly in the tubes 4 and downwardly in the tubes 3.
