Abstract

The invention comprises tetrahydrofurfuryl-2-amidophenoxyacetate, and its preparation by (a) reacting salicylamide with a tetrahydrofurfuryl halogenoacetate or (b) reacting 2-amidophenoxyacetic acid with tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol or a functional derivative thereof. The compound of the invention has pharmaceutical activity (see Division A5). Tetrahydrofurfuryl chloroacetate is prepared by reacting tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol and chloroacetyl chloride in anhydrous chloroform.ALSO:Compositions having analgesic, antiphlogistic, anaesthetic and rubefacient activity comprise tetrahydrofurfuryl 2-amidophenoxyacetate in combination with a pharmaceutical carrier and may be in forms suitable for oral, topical, parenteral or rectal administration, for example as lozenges, powders, ointments, lotions, creams, sticks, spray-solutions, aerosols, solutions, emulsions or suppositories. Other anti-inflammatory agents may be present, for example salicylic acid derivatives, nicotinic esters or essential oils.
