Abstract

A coating composition which comprises an organic film-former and one or more organophilic cation-modified clays, and which has a viscosity not substantially greater than can be obtained by stirring the composition at ambient temperature, is applied to a substrate by means of airless spray apparatus. In examples, sheets of steel and aluminium and surfaces of concrete are sprayed with compositions containing bitumen, epoxy resins, alkyd resins, polyurethane resins plus cellulose derivatives, bitumen plus chlorinated wax, and chlorinated rubber plus chlorinated wax. Pigments, fillers and extenders may also be included. Specifications 664,830, 782,724 and 904,880 are referred to.
