A method of forming and laying an underground drainage tube in situ comprises forming an underground tunnel having a mouth at one end where it emerges from the soil and advancing a tube former 13 through the tunnel while passing the material through the former to form a tube characterized in that the rear end of the tube is anchored at the mouth of the tunnel by securing to the end of the tube a tubular endpiece in the form of an open-ended funnel 17 and allowing the funnel to be drawn against the mouth of the tunnel by tension in the newly formed tube.
