Abstract
980,547. Cable terminations. PYROTENAX Ltd. Jan. 6, 1964 [Jan. 28, 1963], No. 3406/63. Heading H2E. An end seal for a cable comprises a pot or cylinder A screwed at one end on the cable sheath B with an insulating disc C closing the other end. This disc has holes through which the conductor cores pass after first being threaded within flexible insulating sleeves F. Also around each core, and inside the pot, is a closely fitting anchorage element E in the form of a collar and comprising a bead E<SP>2</SP>, which may be ratchet shaped, and a flange E<SP>1</SP>. The sleeves F are expanded over the beads E<SP>2</SP> by pushing until they are stopped by abutting flanges E<SP>1</SP>. The pot is packed with plastic insulating material, the disc pushed in place and the edge A<SP>1</SP> of the pot turned over to retain it. The enlargement in the sleeves F over the beads E press against the inside surface of disc C thus sealing the inner ends of the apertures through which the cores pass. These inner ends may be chamfered to form snug seatings for the enlargements in the sleeves. In another embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown) the pot has an integral end disc A<SP>2</SP> through which the cores and sleeves pass. In this case, a gland nut H is provided at the other end of the pot which abuts against a ring H<SP>1</SP> screwed on the sheath B. The anchorage element E may be moulded from plastic insulating material, when it is convenient to make a tube (Fig. 4, not shown) having several spaced external enlargements constituting flanges E<SP>1</SP> and beads E<SP>2</SP> and to cut it to provide an appropriate number of elements. Each element may be designed with more than one bead in front of the stop flange. The device may be applied to single- or to multicored cables.
