[Also in Division H4] A double-ring filter for combining the outputs of two sources V, S operating at slightly different frequencies comprises two resonant circuits Z 1 , Z 2 consisting of a parallel combination of inductance and capacitance connected in series with another capacitance and arranged to have a high Q at one frequency and a low Q at the other frequency. Each circuit is in the form of a coaxial resonator 7, 8, the inner conductor of which accommodates an opencircuited stub 10, 11 which provides a capacitance in series with the resonator. The input is applied to conductor 16 connected to the end of the inner conductor 10 of the stub. The resonator is tuned by means of a cup-shaped conductor 12 slidable between a short-circuiting annulus 13 and an insulating dust seal 20. A piston 15 is used to vary the point at which the resonator is coupled to the stub 10, 11, so allowing adjustment of the Q. The capacitance of the stub is varied by means of a piston 17. Various members are perforated or spaced from one another to allow air to circulate as indicated by the arrows.
