Abstract

979, 930. Textile spinning. SOC. ALSACIENNE DE CONSTRUCTIONS MECANIQUES. May 15, 1963 [May 25, 1962], No. 19194/63. Heading D1D. A method of spinning comprises shredding a sliver by exposing it to an airstream, projecting the fibres on to a receiving surface and moving the end of a yarn relative to and drawing it away from the said surface whereby the yarn picks up fibres and grows continuously. In the form shown a sliver 10 fed from rollers 11, 12 (which may be the output rollers of a roving frame) passes through a stationary tube 2 to a smooth walled, circular cavity in a rotor 3. The rotor, mounted on a stationary outlet tube 4 and driven by a belt 21 has orifices 24, 25 near the outside of the cavity and thus acts as an air pump, air being drawn in through the tubes 2, 4 and ejected from the orifices 24, 25. The stream of air passing down tube 2 shreads the sliver 10 the fibres of which are then flung to the outermost diameter of the cavity where they are evenly laid. These'films are then continuously picked up by the end of the yarn 30 leaving the cavity via the tube 4 and delivery rollers 5, 6. The counterflowing streams of air from tubes 2, 4 create a boundary which derides the cavity into volumes A and B so that the loose fibres in volume A are held separate from the yarn in volume B. A further embodiment is described wherein the outer surface 14 of the cavity is not curved but is formed of oppositely tapering cones. Relative dimensions of the elements of the apparatus and details of the priming or starting up procedure are given.
