979, 318. Knitting machines. SDRUZENI PODNIKU TEXTILNIHO STROJIRENSTVI, March 23, 1962 [March 23, 1961], No. 11134/62. Heading D1C. A pneumatic take down mechanism for a circular knitting machine comprises a central tube 5 through which the fabric is drawn under suction created by a blower, drawing air through slots 11 in the lower conical end of the tube 5 and coupled to a chamber 18 surrounding the end by a conduit 14. Simultaneously the blower directs air under pressure through a conduit 15 into a lower chamber 19 and into a diffuser 20 into which the open end 12 of the tube 5 projects so as to further induce a downward flow of air in the tube 5 and out of its end 12 into the diffuser 20. A stocking or other article knitted on the machine is thereby drawn from the needles and on completion is ejected from the diffuser into a receptacle 23. On completion of the artifle the suction effect is interrupted in order to prevent the fabric being pulled off the needles prematurely.
