979,263. Irradiating polyoxymethylene. TOYO RAYON KABUSHIKA KAISHA. Aug. 1, 1962 [Aug. 9, 1961], No. 29578/62. Heading C3P. A polyoxymethylene having a viscosity number of at least three is subjected to an ionizing irradiation. The irradiation may take place in a vacuum in a non-oxidizing medium e.g. methanol or toluene using cobalt 60 gamma-ray at between -250‹ and +200‹C. the irradiation dosage being 0À05 to 50 Mrad, preferably 0À2-5 Mrad. After irradiation the polymer may be heated, preferably in a vacuum at 0 to 350‹C. for at least 30 minutes, more preferably at about 200‹C.
