Abstract

978,969. Pallet trucks. CLARK EQUIPMENT CO. March 13, 1963 [March 16, 1962], No. 9889/63. Heading B8H. A low-lift truck, of the kind in which an hydraulic actuator lifts one end of a pair of load-engaging tines directly and the other end through levers coupled to lifting wheels, is so constructed that the tine spacing may be varied without modification of the actuating mechanism. The invention is described in relation to a truck construction in which the tines form the horizontal limb of an L-shaped frame, this construction of the truck per se being claimed in Divisional Specification 978,970. The L-shaped load-lifting frame 14, Fig. 5, has a horizontal limb comprising pallet-engaging tines 54 and a vertical limb comprising uprights 46 bridged by a lifting yoke 18. In the assembled. truck 10, Fig. 1, this frame is mounted back-to-back against the main frame 12, also generally L-shaped, of the truck and the hydraulic ram 20 is connected between the yoke 18 and a like cross-member 17 in frame 12. Movement of the vertical leg of frame 14 is coupled, by levers 68 and 72, to a lifting wheel 82 at the free end of each tine 54. The wheels 82 are each mounted between cheeks 116, Fig. 6, themselves pivotable on an axle 78. These cheeks are also joined by a cross-pin 74 to which the lever 72 is permanently connected to one side of the median plane of the wheel. By detaching the tines from plate 52, reversing the wheel connection so that the levers 72 lie on the other side of the mediam plane of their respective wheels and then reconnecting the tines to plate 52, the spacing of the tines may be varied without modification of any other part of the truck.
