Abstract
Hydrocarbon oils, preferably boiling in the range 300-1,000 DEG F., containing nitrogen are subjected to catalytic hydrodinitrogenation and fractionated to remove a bottoms fraction and the bottoms-free fraction is catalytically hydrocracked to gasoline. Hydrofining is effected conventionally preferably to a nitrogen content below 2 p.p.m. Preferably less than 10% wt. of the refined material is removed in the distillation except when the straight chain paraffin content is 15-70% wt. when up to 30% may be removed and this bottoms fraction subjected to catalytic cracking. Hydrocracking is effected at 400-1,000 DEG F., 200-2,000 p.s.i.g., 0.1-10 vol./vol./hour with 1,000-10,000SCF of hydrogen per barrel. The catalyst comprises an acidic cracking catalyst and a hydrogenating component, e.g. a Group VIII metal, and preferably also S, As, Sb, Pb, Hg, Cu, Ag, Zn, or Cd. Fluorine may be added to the feed.
