Abstract
Chlorinated polyester resins are stabilized by incorporating therein, prior to final curing, at least 0.05% by weight, based upon the unstabilized chlorinated polyester resin, of a benztriazole of the formula <FORM:0978546/C3/1> where R1, R2 and R3 are each independently hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, cyclohexyl, phenyl or halogen, and X1, X2 and X3 are each independently hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, carbalkoxy, halogen or alkylsulphonyl at least one of X1, X2 and X3 being hydrogen, and from 0.1 to 10% by weight, based upon the unstabilized chlorinated polyester resin, of a phosphite of the formula <FORM:0978546/C3/2> where R4, R5 znd R6 are each independently alkyl, halogenoalkyl having at least 2 carbon atoms, alkenyl, alkaryl, aryl or aralkyl. The preferred compounds of formulae I and II are 2-(21-hydroxy -51- methylphenyl)-benztriazole, 2-(21-hydroxy -51- tertiary-butylphenyl)-benztriazole 2-(21-hydroxy-51-tertiary-butylphenyl)-5 -chloro-benztriazole and tris-isooctylphosphite, tris -2- chloroethyl phosphite, tridecylphosphite and tris -2- ethylhexylphosphite respectively. In the example "Hetron" (Registered Trade Mark), is the polyester resin employed.
