A vibratory centrifuge for the dewatering of fine granular material comprises a screen drum 1 mounted at its two ends and vibrating particularly in a horizontal axial direction, to which the material to be centrifuged is supplied through a stationary tube 34, and in which the srceen drum is mounted, at the end where its diameter is smaller, on a carrier pin 7 and is connected, at the end opposite the feed point, through an inner cone 8 and/or webs 9, to a cylindrical member 11 which serves for the power transmission for the rotation of the drum. Concentric annular rubber springs 5 and 10 serve for the mounting of the screen drum on the carrier pin 7 and on the cylindrical member 11. As shown, the webs 9 are secured to the screen drum at a distace from the end at which the material is discharged. In operation, the torque imparted to the cylindrical member 11 by the V-belt pulley 18 is transmitted by the rubber springs 10 through the cone 8 and webs 9 to the screen drum which thus rotates at the same speed, while the screen drum is excited by means of the eccentric drive to axial vibrations. The material to be centrifuged passes from inlet tube 34 via slots 38 into the part 2 of the screen drum, a large proportion of the water passing therethrough into chamber 31 from which it is collected in a trough (not shown) and the retained pulp travels letfwards to part 3, its frictional resistance to movement increasing as its water content is reduced, and finally the dried particles pass over the edge of the drum into chamber 32 and thence to a bunker (not shown). The step formed by annular disc 4 displaces particles passing from part 2 to part 3 and so assists dewatering, while the disc itself facilitates the attachment of the parts 2 and 3 and of the webs 9, which are of narrow cross-section so as not to impede the passage of the material.
