Abstract
977,046. Turning inside out SINGER CO. Nov. 27,1963 [Nov. 27, 1962], No. 46872/63. Heading D1X. A glove-turning machine comprises a hollow glove form having the finger and thumb portions open at the tips thereof, means for moving the glove form from a glove-receiving position to a glove-stripping position, and means for applying a vacuum to the interior of the glove form when in the glove-stripping position for inverting and holding the tips of the glove on the form. The machine is a modification of the machine described in Specification 839,916. Four glove forms 9 are mounted on the respective faces 6 of a hollow square block 5 rotated intermittently through 90 degrees by a shaft 2. Each glove form comprises a hollow base 10 communicating with a chamber 12 carrying four finger tubes 13 open at their tips. On each side of chamber 12 as 10 is formed with an opening 14 which may either be closed by a plug 15 or receive an adaptor 16 carrying a thumb tube 17 open at the tip. Bores 22 formed in block 5 through the faces 6 communicate with the bases 10. Block 5 is formed with a bore 18 journalled on a fixed vacuum chamber 19. A port 23, formed in the side wall of the latter, communicates via a port 22 with the glove form in the glove-stripping position. A piston valve 26, on a piston rod 29, is adapted, when engaging a seat 27, to connect the vacuum chamber to the glove form in the glovestripping position, and when engaging a seat 28 to connect said glove form to the atmosphere via ports 25 in block 5. Rod 29 also carries a piston 3<SP>1</SP> disposed in a cylinder 30. Ports 32, 33 at theopposite ends of the latter are connected by respective pipes 34, 35. Said valve is operated by a cam on shaft 2, and the arrangement is such that when a glove form arrives at the glove-stripping position, vacuum is applied to the interior of the glove form. The tips of the glove are thereby sucked into the tubes 13 and 17 and are held therein while the glove is inverted and removed by members engaging the wrist portion of the glove. The vacuum in said glove former is then released.
