Abstract

976,671. Vehicle suspensions. STEEL CONSTRUCTION & ENGINEERING CO. (NOTTS) Ltd. Sept. 2, 1963 [Sept. 3, 1962], No. 33663/62. Heading B7D. [Also in Division B8] Tractor 7 (Fig. 1) is provided with a trailer 1 which runs on wheels 2 and is coupled to the tractor at 5. The trailer 1 carries crane mast 12 on which jib 10 is pivoted at 11. Jib 10 is raised into the vertical position from the horizontal by two hydraulic pistons 23, the jib being secured by a pin 27 passing through one of the holes 26 and releasable by cable 29 operated by handle 33. The trailer carries oil reservoir 50, the oil from which is driven by pump 47 operated from the tractor power takeoff 46 so that it operates the pistons 23 and also drives motor 19 which drives winch 18 to operate the load pulley 17. The hydraulic system is controlled by the operator through valve levers 54. Ground supports, Fig. 3.- The wheels 2 of the trailer are carried by the pistons 41 of hydraulic cylinders 44 which are pivoted at their inward points so that the wheels may be suitably extended. Additionally, the trailer carries pivotal arms 62 which have telescopic legs 63 which engage the ground. Overloading device, Fig. 6.- The pins 5 by which the trailer 1 is coupled to the tractor 7 are carried by rubber sleeves 57 and electrical contacts 58 are provided so that when the load carried by the pulley 17 is exceeded the pressure on pin 5 causes the contacts 58 to be short circuited and an alarm to be raised.
