Abstract

976,412. Controlling lamps photo-electric. BENJAMIN ELECTRIC Ltd., and G. D. SKINNER. Aug. 28, 1963 [May 28, 1962], No. 20443/62. Heading G1A. [Also in Divisions G4 and H3] SKINNER. Aug. 28, A light device comprises a number of associated light sources operated intermittently so that in the event of failure of one lamp, the device continues to operate with a different visual pattern of light. As described, the unit comprises a transistor multivibrator 40, 41, Fig. 4, the output of which is fed via amplifiers 44, 46 and 43, 45 to lamps 17 and 16 respectively. The amplifiers are gated on and off by a bi-stable circuit 50, 51 which is switched from one state to the other by pulses produced at the outputs of the amplifiers. The resulting gated signals have waveforms 16a, 16b, 16c, 17a, 17b, 17c, Fig. 3 which cause the lamps to flash alternatively. Should one lamp fail, the other continues to flash giving a visual signal at half the previous rate. Transistors 58, 59 may be provided in parallel with transistors 41, 42 so that the circuit will continue to operate in the event of a failure of one of these transistors. The unit is housed in a casing provided with a photosensitive element which switches it on when the ambient light falls below a predetermined level, a removable stop being provided for controlling the amount of light falling on the photosensitive element. The two lamps 16, 17 are arranged behind a common filter or lens and the unit is fitted with a switch which is automatically operated when the unit is mounted on a support.
