Abstract

The invention comprises 5-hydroxymethyl -1-(5-nitro-2-furfurylidenamino)-hydantoin and its preparation by (a) reacting 5-hydroxymethyl-1-benzylidenaminohydantoin with 5-nitro-2-furaldehyde-diacetate in acid medium, or (b) reacting N - (5-nitro-2-furfurylidene)-1-aminohydantoin with formaldehyde. 5-Hydroxymethyl -1- benzylidenaminohydantoin is prepared by reacting 1-benzylidenaminohydantoin with formaldehyde.
