Abstract

975,147. Screen printing apparatus. P. ZIMMER. April 8, 1963 [April 11, 1962], No. 13862/63. Heading B6C. In a process for the manufacture of a seamless cylindrical printing screen by electroplating, a cylindrical metal film is deposited by electroplating on the internal cylindrical bore of a metal master, the film is stripped from the master and is then provided with a screen pattern and a printing design. By using a master with a higher coefficient of thermal expansion than the metal of the film the stripping may be easily effected after the application of heat. The pattern and design may be applied to the film whilst the latter is held over an inflated roller body which comprises a slotted metal tube 2 encased in a soft rubber envelope 3. Inside the tube is arranged an inflatable rubber tubing 4 having a valve 7. Lateral parts 5 and 6 braced by tensioning rods 9 are arranged on both sides of the roller body and angles 10 welded to the tube 2 are located around the rods 9 to provide a close fitting of the tubing 4. The film 1 is placed over the envelope 3 after removing the lateral part 5.
