Abstract

973,196. Shearing. REYNOLDS METALS CO. Aug. 20, 1963, No. 32950/63. Heading B3W. In an edge-trimmer for strip metal a pair of rotary cutters adapted to receive the strip edge, rotate in planes at an acute angle to the trim line and divergent therefrom in the direction of strip travel. The apparatus comprises two pairs of combined edge trimming and scrap-chopping cutters 14. Each pair includes overlapping disc-cutters 16 and 18 which are set at a small angle " A " to the trimming line. Each lower disc has inserted crosscutting blades 22, secured by wedges 24 and set at a small angle to the axis of the disc. The blades 22 nip the scrap against the periphery 29 of the upper disc.
