Abstract

A lubricant composition comprises an ester-based synthetic fluid of lubricating viscosity and minor amounts of a phenothiazine, a dipyridylamine, and a material selected from aminoquinolines, aminopyridines, and mixtures thereof. The dipyridylamine may be 2,21-dipyridylamine; the aminoquinoline may be 3- or 8-aminoquinoline; and the aminopyridine may be 2-aminopyridine. Any of the additives may contain other substituents, e.g. alkyl groups. The ester may be blended with a natural ester, e.g. castor oil. A large number of ester-based synthetic fluids of various types are described, including single esters, diesters, complex esters, glycol esters and esters of neo-alcohols.
