An automatic braking regulator for motor vehicles consists of a housing 1 with a stepped piston 2, the larger step 3 of which possesses a valve port 32 to transfer the pressure medium from the master cylinder to the front wheel cylinder via ports 6, 19, 7 so that the full face and annular face of the large step 3 are impinged upon by the master cylinder pressure and the wheel cylinder pressure respectively and its small step 4 is subjected to the pressure of a resilient means, i.e. the pneumatic suspension, which also is initially transmitted in the opening sense to the valve body 16. The pneumatic suspension works against concentric floating pistons 10, 12, pressure being transmitted through the former to the small step 4 and through the latter via a slidably mounted rod 14 to valve 5. The pressure of fluid to the wheel cylinder increases until the thrust on valve 5 balances the thrust of the pneumatic system whence valve 5 closes. As the master cylinder pressure further increases the pressure in the wheel cylinder is boosted. In a second embodiment (Fig. 2) the large step 34 is limitedly, slidably mounted in the housing 33 about a valve which has secured to it the smaller step 35. A single floating piston 51, resiliently mounted on spring 52, transmits the suspension pressure to the small step. The operation of the valve is as described above.
