Abstract

A mouldable oxymethylene polymer is prepared by copolymerizing trioxane, a cyclic ether having at least two adjacent carbon atoms and a glycidyl ether. Specific cyclic ethers are ethylene oxide, dioxolane, trioxepane, dioxane, trimethylene oxide, pentamethylene oxide, 1-2-propylene oxide, 1-2-butylene oxide, neopentyl formal, pentaerythritol diformal, paraldehyde, tetrahydrofuran and butadiene monoxide while methyl, ethyl, propyl, cyclohexyl, isopropyl, n-butyl, isobutyl, t-butyl, allyl and phenyl glycidyl ethers and the diglycidyl ethers of bis-phenol-A are specified termonomers. Catalysts e.g. boron fluoride complexes may be present and the reaction may be short stopped e.g. with tri-n-butylamine.
