Abstract

971, 520. Photographic copying cameras. LANSTON INDUSTRIES Inc. Aug. 13, 1962, No. 31033/62. Heading G2A. A photographic copying camera has an upright frame, with a horizontally extending copy holder and a horizontally extending film holder mounted on opposite sides of the frame, a lens carrier mounted on the frame and having parts extending over the holders, means for reflecting light from one holder to the other in a path comprising vertical and horizontal sections, and means for relative movement between the lens carrier and the holders. As shown, the camera is built on an upright supporting frame consisting of front and back plates (20) and a top plate 22, the frame resting on a base 17. A copy holder table 26 is mounted on one side of the frame, and a film holder table 27 on the other. The tables are removably mounted on carriages movable vertically on the frame by means of screw shafts 44, which are controlled by electric motors 48, 49. A lens and reflector carrier 28 is mounted on the frame above the tables, and can be moved up and down by further motor-controlled screw shafts 57. On the carrier is supported a central lens 64 having a horizontal optical axis, and further lenses 70, 71 having vertical optical axes, directed respectively towards the two holder tables 26, 27. Lenses 70, 71 are mounted on boards which can be moved laterally by rack and pinion means (Fig. 5, not shown), so that they can be adjusted over different parts of the holder tables. Carrier 28 also has two reflectors 80, 81, arranged at a 45 degrees inclination. In operation, a copy is placed on table 26, and illuminated from below. The image is directed upwardly to reflector 80, across to reflector 81, and then down on to a light-sensitive film on table 27. If lens 64 only is used, an approximately 1 : 1 magnification is obtained, which can be varied by vertical adjustment of the tables. If an enlargement is required, lens 70 only is used, and similarly lens 71 only is used when a greatly reduced image such as a microfilm is required. If the part of the carrier 28 containing reflector 81 and lens 71 is removed altogether, as in Fig. 13, the image can be thrown on to a vertical panel 112 provided with a screen or sensitised film sheet 111. The panel may be adjustable towards lens 64 to vary the magnification. The tables may be of the type shown in Fig. 9, having channels 89, 90 on the upper surface which can be evacuated so as to hold a copy down flat. A number of retractable pins 95 can also be provided, to locate a sheet in a particular position on the table.
