Abstract
971,154. Cigarette mouthpieces. WIX OF LONDON Ltd. March 2, 1961 [March 8, 1960], No. 8214/60. Heading A2C. [Also in Division B8] Plungers 8 are slidden in grooves 7 of a rotary drum 5 by a stationary cam 9, so that double-length wad mouthpieces picked up from right-hand sections of grooves 3 of a rotary drum 1 are moved into alignment with middle sections of the grooves 3 for deposition in vacant ones thereof. As shown, septuple-length mouthpiece rods WL are subdivided on a drum 4 into three aligned double-length mouth-pieces and fed into every third groove 3, successive leftwards transfer being effected by the drum 5 and a like drum 10 so as to fill all the grooves 3 with mouth-pieces W in their left-hand sections for transfer to a drum 14 at from 1000 to 2000 mouthpieces a minute. The drums 5, 10 may be arranged to fill the middle sections of the grooves 3. More than two drums 5, 10 may be provided if more than two sets of mouthpieces are to be repositioned. Hollow or partially hollow mouthpieces may be used.
