Abstract

970,793. Feeding webs. WITTON-JAMES Ltd. June 6, 1963 [April 5, 1962], No. 13178/62. Heading B6B. A web 6 being fed to a printing-machine passes over a roller 11 on a frame 18 which is pivoted to a limited extent about a vertical axis on a fixed shaft 17 by means of slots 19 in the frame and a block 23 carried on the frame and having a recess 24 presenting a curved bearing surface engaging a correspondingly curved end piece of an arm 26 secured to the shaft. An increase of web tension at the edge 28, for example, results in the frame and roller pivoting clockwise to reduce the web path length at the edge 28 and equalize the tension. The block 23 is adjustable along the frame to position the pivotal axis centrally of the web.
