Abstract

970,678. Valves. DANIEL MONTGOMERY & SON Ltd. July 30, 1963 [May 16, 1962], No. 18897/62. Heading F2V. [Also in Division B8] A one-way fluid valve 10 for use in non- refillable bottles comprises a tubular housing 11 having a valve chamber 15, a valve seat 12, and a jumper 13 movable under gravity, the valve seat 12 being a force-fit in the housing thereby expanding the housing wall outwardly at 25. The valve is made of resilient plastics and is forced into the tubular neck of a bottle until the expanded portion 25 passes an internal protuberance in the neck, thus preventing withdrawal of the valve. In this position a guard portion 18 is flush with the top of the bottle neck so that any conventional closure may be fitted. The valve seat 12 has an annular wall with a circumferential rib 22 engaging a groove in the housing, and a diametrical cross-piece 23 formed with a hole 24 in which slides the pin 29 of the jumper 13. Under the weight of a glass sphere 14 the head 26 of the jumper seats in a surface 27 to seal D-shaped flow passages 28 in the valve seat and prevent the entry of fluid into the bottle. When the bottle is tipped the glass sphere falls away from the surface. 30 and the weight of liquid carries the jumper into the chamber 15 opening the flow passages 28 and allowing liquid to flow through the chamber and out of the bottle. In a modified form of valve seat, Fig. 7 (not shown), the cross-piece 23 is S-shaped to provide greater resilience.
