Abstract
970,458. Cutting by fusion. ADOLF MESSER G.m.b.H. April 26, 1963, No. 16456/63. Heading B3V. A flame cutting or machining torch has a device 7 for advancing a priming wire 8 to the cutting nozzle, comprising a piston 21 containing a clutch 28 for gripping the wire and operated by oxygen from the main oxygen supply. The stroke of the piston is adjustable by a screwed plug 25. Fuel gas is supplied to the nozzle through screw valve 10 and pipe 4 and oxygen is supplied through screw valve 9 and pipe 3. Cutting oxygen is controlled by a spring-loaded valve 11 actuated by hand lever 30 which first opens an inner valve 15 to permit oxygen flow into pipe 18 leading to the feed piston 21 which thus advances the priming wire 8. Further movement of the lever 30 then opens the valve 11 to start the cutting. Piston 21 is retracted by spring 22 and during this stroke the clutch 28 is inoperative. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the oxygen supply to piston 21 is controlled by a separate valve.
