Abstract

An aerosol composition maintained under pressure in a pressure-tight container comprises an aqueous phase containing a textile stiffening agent, a liquid organic propellent phase and the gas phase of the propellant, and, as a spray improvement agent, at least one lipophilic interface-active substance having an HLB value according to Griffin of at most 6 or a mixture of lipophilic substances having such an HLB value. The stiffening agent may be starch or a derivative thereof, a cellulose derivative, polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinylacetate, polystyrene or a polyacrylic resin: the interface-active agent may be an alcohol containing at least 4 carbon atoms, an oxyalkylaryl compound such as benzyl alcohol, a phosphate ester of an alcohol containing at least 4 carbon atoms, a mono- or di-ether of a glycol with an alcohol or oxyaryl compound, a glycol monoether ester, a glycol diester, or a fatty acid ester of a polyhydroxy compound. The propellant may be propane, butane, dichlorodifluoromethane or dichlorotetrafluoroethane. Optional additives include optical brighteners, softening agents such as glycols, polyglycols and glycerine, anti-microbials such as substituted benzoxazoloues, substituted salicylic acid anilides, substituted phenols, organo-tin compounds or halogen isocyanuric acid derivatives, and perfumes.ALSO:Fabrics such as cotton are sprayed with an aerosol composition containing a stiffening agent and optionally an anti-microbiol such as a substituted benzoxazolone, a substituted salicyclic acid anilide, a substituted phenol, an organo-tin compound or a halogen isocyanuric acid derivative. In one such composition (Example 3) dichlorobenoxazolone is used, and fungistatic and bacteristatic properties conferred on the fabric.ALSO:Fabrics such as cotton are sprayed with an aerosol composition containing a stiffening agent such as starch or a starch derivative, polyvinyl alchohol polyvinyl acetate, polystyrene, an acrylic resin or a cellulose derivative. Optical brightness softening agents, perfumes and antimicrobials may also be present
