Abstract
970,301. Stencilling-apparatus; inking apparatus. ROYAL NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR THE BLIND. Nov. 23, 1960 [Nov. 24, 1959], No. 39920/59. Heading B6C. In a method of applying a discontinuous coating continuously to an article, e.g. a moving web of material, the article is caused to enter into pressure contact with a perforated stencil or screen which may move in the same direction as that of a moving web, and the coating material is forced under pressure through a nozzle or nozzles, which is or are in pressure contact with the stencil or screen, and through the stencil or screen to be deposited on the article. The stencil 7, Figs. 1 and 2, forms the surface of a drum. Printing material such as polyvinyl chloride is forced into one end of a tube 1 and through a slit 2 therein and a corresponding slit 4 in a rubber block 3 surrounding the tube and supported in a bracket 8, the block 3 being held in place by blades 11. The bracket 8 is slidably carried on guides within the drum, to allow removal for cleaning. The stencil 7 is cleaned by a plasticizer in a bath 18 by rollers 19 to the helically disposed nylon bristles 17 on a brush 16 or to the radially disposed blades of a rotor. For printing on both sides of the web 14, a similar stencil 13 with similar inking and cleaning units is disposed on the opposite side of the web. Specification 772,711 is referred to.
