Abstract
A bituminous composition for use in fabricating a structural unit, e.g. for the construction of dykes, dams, breakwaters, jetties, locks, bridges and railway embankments, is made by mixing coarse stones, i.e. stones having a dimension greater than 50 mm. and preferably less than 500 mm., bitumen and sulphur. The composition is heated to a temperature of from 120 to 160 DEG C., poured into a mould, and then allowed to cool to a temperature lower than 120 DEG C., before releasing from the mould. A mineral aggregate, e.g. a mixture of stones having dimensions less than 50 mm., sand and/or a filler of ground limestone or shale may also be included.
