Abstract

969,842. Piezo-electric generators. CLEVITE CORPORATION. April 23, 1963 [April 30, 1962 (2)], No. 15940/63. Heading H2A. An X-ray generator 52 is energized by a piezo-electric column 12 which is compressed by hydraulic piston 14 and released by electromagnetically operated valve 32. The stack is housed in a rigid cylinder 10 which also contains transformer oil for use in applying hydraulic pressure to the underside 28 of the piston. Pressure is applied by a manually or motor operated plunger 38, is recorded on gauge 36, and is released to energize the X-ray tube through a duct 30 between the highpressure area and the cylinder 10. The relief valve 32 is operated by battery 64 and pushbutton 62, and it may operate suddenly to produce a voltage peak or it may be restricted in its movement to produce a desired output voltage for a longer period. The tube-housing 50 may also be filled with insulating oil, and its cathode 56 is heated by battery 60.
