Abstract

968,973. Pipe couplings. ANCHOR COUPLING CO. Inc. July 26, 1963 [Nov. 5, 1962], No. 29672/63. Heading F2G. A pipe coupling comprises a hollow insert 11 mounted inside the end of a tube 10, said insert having a groove 17 in its outer wall outside the end of the tube, a hollow sleeve 12 pressed on said end of said tube to clamp the tube about the insert, an inwardly extending lip 18 on the sleeve being disposed in said groove and having at least two angularly spaced notches 19 in its inner edge the radius of the deepest point of said notches being equal to or greater than the radius of the outer edge of the groove. As shown the groove is formed between two upstanding ridges 15, 16 but may be recessed in the wall of the insert. The insert and sleeve may have a plurality of teeth on ribs 14, 14<SP>1</SP> to grip the tube. The lip of the sleeve is swaged into the groove 17. The sleeve carries guide marks disposed longitudinal or at an angle to the axis, intersecting the notches to enable the sleeve to be sawn in half if the tube 10 is damaged, without damaging the insert. Two semicylindrical sections 25, 26 (Fig. 5) having flanges 27, 28 carrying bolts 29 can be used to reclamp a tube in situ if the first sleeve is cut away. The sections contain a flange at one end co-operating with the recess 17 and have teeth on their inner surface (Fig. 6, not shown).
