Abstract

968,781. Sewing. SOC. RHODIACETA. Nov. 26, 1962 [Dec. 12, 1961], No. 44682/62. Heading D1G. In sewing a seam in work comprising thermoplastic material, electrical current is passed through the work at the points at which the needle is subsequently to pass in order to weaken or perforate the work at said points. As shown, the presser foot 1 and throat plate 2 have incorporated therein respective electrodes 3 and 4 isolated by insulation 5. The line of discharge A B between the electrodes intersects the line of stitching on the work 6 at a print C situated a short distance in front of the axis FG of the needle 7. The discharge is passed while the work is being fed, and the perforation is thereby aligned with the needle when the work is stationary, the diameter of the perforation being regulated by the voltage applied.
