Abstract

Growth stimulation in animals, e.g. cattle, lambs and pigs, and improved feed conversion are obtained with feed containing a substance which slows down peristalsis and is preferably specific for smooth gastro-intestinal muscle. The substances are exemplified by atropine, methantheline bromide, propantheline bromide, aminopentamide sulphate, dibutoline sulphate, dicyclomine hydrochloride, hexocyclium methyl sulphate, isopropamide iodide, methscopolamine bromide, methscopolamine nitrate, oxyphenonium bromide, penthienate bromide, pipenyolate methylbromide, piperidolate hydrochloride, tricyclamol chloride, valethamate bromide, homatropine and eucatropine hydrochloride. The example is concerned with weanling lambs receiving 30 mg. and 60 mg. of propantheline bromide per day. U.S.A. Specification 2,751,303 is referred to.
