Abstract

968,745. Drills. WICKMAN Ltd. Aug. 26, 1963 [June 5, 1962], No. 21615/62. Heading B3C. A rotary drilling bit comprises a hexagonal shaft 6 with threaded portions at each end. A carrier 7 is screwed to one end to facilitate connection to a drilling machine spindle and to the other end of the shaft is screwed a pilot cutter 8. Intermediate the shaft ends are secured two reaming cutters 9 and 10. Cutter 10 bears against the carrier 7 and cutter 9 against a locking ring 11 which may be formed integral with cutter 8. A further locking ring 12 is located between the cutters 9 and 10. The cutters 9 and 10 are formed in three segments which are held in position on the shaft 6 by flanges on the rings 11, 12 and on the carrier 7. The shaft may also be of square or octagonal cross-section for which the cutters would be in 2, 4 or 8 segments.
