Abstract

968,576. Resilient mountings for seats &c. CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO. Jan 1, 1963 [Jan. 17, 1962], No. 41/63. Heading A4U. A seat 11 is supported on a parallelogram linkage including a U-shaped bracket 12 and links 13, 14, and an air cylinder 18 for providing pneumatic cushioning is secured to member 17 on the forward ends of links 13, 14 and includes a piston 21 and piston rod 22, a levelling valve 23 being secured to member 17 and pneumatically connected to an air supply by a line 24, and to an upper chamber 26 of cylinder 18 by a line 27, a vent valve 28 and air line 29, the valve 23 being responsive to a downward movement of the seat to communicate the air supply with the cylinder and responsive to an upward movement to connect the cylinder with the atmosphere. If the user wishes to remove his weight from the seat without the latter following him up he can operate valve 28 by a lever to block line 27 and connect line 29 to an exhaust line.
