968,487. Laminates. F. FORTENBACHER, [trading as VERKEHRSLEHRMITTEL U MAGNETISCHE LEHRMITTEL FAHRSCHULBEDARF FRITZ FORTENBACHER]. April 18, 1963 [April 19, 1962; Jan. 25, 1963], No. 15391/63. Heading B5N. [Also in Divisions G5 and H1] A flexible, magnetically adherent signplate, comprises a layer of rubber or plastic incorporating powdered permanent magnet material bonded to a layer incorporating no such material, the plate bearing characters, preferably applied by screen printing. The plate may comprise two layers of rubber vulcanized together, or the layer containing permanent magnet material may have a coat of synthetic resin or rubber lacquer applied thereto. Fig. 2 shows rubber 1 incorporating permanent magnet material, a fabric interlayer 5, a layer of rubber 2 and a lacquer coating 3 bearing printing 4. The permanent magnet material may be barium ferrite. Layers 2, 3 may incorporate materials which absorb ultraviolet rays. The rubber layer 2 may contain powdered softiron (Fig. 3) acting as a return path for the alternate north and south poles on the surface of sheet 1. The iron powder may be incorporated in or adhered to a sheet of rubber 2 which is then secured to sheet 1 by vulcanizing or adhesive, or the iron powder may be mixed with rubber solution and sprayed or brushed on to sheet 1. An additional edge layer may incorporate ferromagnetic material, and a third layer over the whole plate may contain no magnetic materials. The plate may be a motor vehicle registration plate or name plate, or used on railways or ships.
