Abstract

968,358. Air curtains. VAUXHALL MOTORS Ltd. Dec. 6, 1962 [Jan. 11, 1962], No. 1068/62. Heading F4V. Heated air curtains are projected from vertical slots on either side of a door opening. On either side of an external door opening of a building is arranged a unit comprising a heater 11, a motor driven fan 12 and a vertical duct 14 having along its length a projector 15 with an elongated slot 16, the width of which is adjustable by means of screw bolts 17. The ducts 14 may be rotatable on their base-plates, and are arranged so that the streams of air from the slots 16 are projected slightly outwardly of the door opening, Fig. 1 (not shown). The fan motor 13 is controlled by a door-operated switch (not shown) such that when the door is lifted a certain height above its closed position D1 the motor is switched on and similarly when the door is lowered from its horizontal open position D2 the motor 13 is switched off. The above control may be applied to one or both of the units on either side of the door. In modifications (not shown) swing doors may be used, one blower unit may serve both projectors, and two projectors may be located one above the other on each side of the door opening.
