Abstract

968,273. Commutation arrangements for dynamo-electric machines; control of D.C. motors. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. Nov. 7, 1960 [Nov. 5, 1959], No. 38238/60. Drawings to Specification. Headings H2A and H2J. An electric motor has the stator windings connected to the supply through electrical or mechanical switching members controlled by a contactless commutating arrangement and has a field winding connected through slip-rings to a stationary control arrangement for varying the speed of the motor. The control signals for the switching members are substantially independent of the motor speed and have a current waveform that rises to a fixed maximum and falls to zero. These control signals may be produced optically, capacitively or magnetically using Hall effect generators or magnetically sensitive resistors, all such devices producing a fixed maximum output for all speeds; they may be amplified or modulated before being applied to the switching members. The stationary control arrangement preferably includes a magnetic amplifier supplied from a potentiometer so that a desired speed can be set. The switching members are preferably grid-controlled rectifier sets and the stator winding sections are evenly distributed, each section being wound in the opposite direction to the adjacent section. The motor is used for driving a feedwater pump in a steam generating installation.
