Abstract

967, 532. Yarn treating apparatus. W. SCHMIDT-SALZMANN. March 18, 1963 [March 16, 1962], No. 10679/63. Heading D1L. A device for lubricating or waxing filamentary material comprises a pair of discs inclined to the horizontal and arranged to form therebetween a slot for passage of the filamentary material, the upper disc being adapted to receive liquid and distribute it to the adjacent part of the filamentary material and means for supplying liquid to the upper disc in response to the passage of filamentary material. As shown yarn 2 passes from a supply 1 via a tensioner 4 and cleaner 5 and thence between the two discs 8, 11, the disc 8 being in the form of a cup and the disc 11 being rotatably mounted. The gap between the discs is adjustable so as to produce slight frictional contact between the yarn and the disc 11 to induce rotating motion on the latter. Paraffin emulsion is fed to the cup disc 8 via pipe 12 and valve 15 from reservoir 18 by a pump 17 under the control of cam disc 25. The valve 15 is operably connected to detector 19 such that should the yarn break the detector swings to the dotted line position thus rotating the valve 15 to disconnect the supply of liquid to thecup disc 8.
