Abstract

A process for the preparation of an aqueous composition comprising, a water-dispersable paste of copper oxychloride of the formula CuCl2 -3 Cu(OH)2 in the form of particles of which not more than 12% are of, or exceed a diameter of 5m , said paste being in a concentration of from 10-20% by weight (calculated as combined metallic copper) in association with one or more application agents (see Division A5), comprises reacting cuprous chloride with a stoichiometric quantity of alkali metal hypochlorite in aqueous medium and then to the mixture there is added a metal base (e.g. sodium or calcium hydroxide) and then to the reaction mixture is added one or more application agents, e.g. lignosulphites and lignosulphonates, dinaphthylalkyl and aralkyl sulphonates, alkyl sulphosuccinates, polyphosphates, alginates, alkyl oleyl tauride, polyvinyl alcohols, hydroxyethyl celluloses and condensation products of urea formaldehyde and polyoxyethylene alkyl phenols.ALSO:An aqueous fungicidal composition incorporates as active ingredient, a water-dispersible paste of copper oxychloride of the formula CuCl2.3Cu(OH)2 in the form of particles of which not more than 12% are of, or exceed a diameter of 5m , said paste being in a concentration of from 10-20% by weight (calculated as combined metallic copper) in association with one or more of the following: wetting, adhesive or dispersing agents. Specified wetting, adhesive and dispersing agents are ligno sulphites and lignosulphonates of alkali metals, calcium and ammonium; calcium and alkali metal dinaphthyl alkyl sulphonates; aralkyl sulphonates of alkali metals, calcium and amines; alkyl sulphosuccinates; poly phosphates; derivatives of alginic acid; alkyloleyl tauride; polyvinyl alcohols; hydroxyethyl celluloses, condensation products of urea formaldehyde and polyoxyethylene alkyl phenols. The composition may contain metal chlorides derived from metals which form metal bases.
